Rochester Home Builders’ Association Announces
Homearama 2008
NYSERDA-Supported “Build Green. Live Green.” Home Will Be Featured at 30th
Anniversary Show
The
Rochester Home Builders’ Association (RHBA) today announced the 30th
Anniversary Homearama 2008 which focuses on building highly energy efficient
homes with green practices. One home
that will be featured in the Homearama is part of the NYSERDA (New York State
Energy Research and Development Authority) high performance residential
development challenge—the Build Green. Live Green. home.
“The Rochester Home Builders’ Association is
proud to be able to showcase energy efficiency and green building as the
overarching theme of this year’s Homearama,” said Rick Herman, RHBA Executive
Vice President.
Rochester-based
Gerber Homes will build the Build Green.
Live Green. home under the guidelines of NYSERDA to be at least 65% more
energy efficient than code. The super-insulated home will feature a highly
energy efficient mechanical ventilation system and heating and cooling
system. Once the home is occupied, it
will be monitored for whole house energy use for a one–year period to allow the
actual performance of the home to be compared with initial estimates of energy
use and utility costs.
“Through NYSERDA’s residential energy
challenge we will demonstrate the enormous savings that high energy systems in
the Build Green. Live Green. home
will provide future homeowners,” said Liza Bowles, Newport Ventures President.
Through
funding from NYSERDA, Newport Ventures, a building and technology consulting
firm, will provide design consulting services for Gerber Homes during
construction of the home. The Build Green.
Live Green. home is one of seven homes throughout the state whose builders
will partner with Newport Ventures and NYSERDA to provide ultra energy
efficient homes, whose performance will be verified with real world data. To track the progress of the project, visit www.newportventures.net
Creating a house that is a
home is the mission for both David Riedman, President of @ home Builders and
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Rochester, NY. This June, at Homerama, the two will unite
to create a home filled with the latest in technology and the greatest in
gently used furniture and accessories.
Furnishings will be gleaned from donations collected for RMHC’s annual
fall ABC Household and Antiques Sale Fundraiser. Ronald McDonald House Charities and @home Builders will use this
opportunity to help raise awareness as well as funds to support the thousands
of families who make Ronald McDonald House their “Home Away From Home” while
their children are receiving healthcare in Rochester area hospitals.
Other
area builders and homes featured in the RHBA Homearama include:
